Sara, a lively young woman walked down the corridor at Hogwarts. It was a sunny saturday afternoon and she had free time between classes. Since it was a nice day out she decided to go outside on the grounds and play around, maybe climb a few trees. The hallways had a few other students but most of them were in class. Sara didn't like to be around alot of people at once but she always warmed up to people quickly. She wasn't the shy type.
As she walked out the oak doors the sunlight glisend off her wavy blonde hair. A large smile came across her face for the warmth of the sun gave a comfortable feeling. She loved to be outdoors, of course growing up on a large land at home. She had all the space to play. But the only thing she lacked was someone to talk to. Of course she had friends but they were either in class or out doing something else. But being alone never stoped her from enjoying herself.
She walked over to a nearby tree and started to climb it, getting up to the first branch. She pulled herself up and sat down confortably, holding onto the branch for support. She looked around on the grounds, watching as people walked by. [/blockquote]

Derek liked his free periods. What he should have been doing is preparing for his next test but he was never one to study. He normally just tried to wing it whenever possible, which was normally always. He didn't like to be cramped up and to have to do things that were considered normal. He liked being out there having fun, going to parties and the more then occasional flirting with a pretty girl. It ws just much more fun to be out of school then it was to be in it. He was no a person that did well within walls.
So whenever it was possible, Derek would go outdoors to get away from his walls. He would go out to the grounds, jump in the lake or play tag with the whomping willow. Whatever it was that he coudl do outside he would do and most likely he would do it with a lot of noise and not a lot of shame. He did no shame easily and he knew that it could get on the nerves of more then a few people.
He stopped at his usual tree. He normally sat under it but he felt the urge to want climb it, which he would have if a pretty blond girl had not beat him to it. The blond in question was without a doubt the lovely Sara Cromwell. He never really got to know this particular classmate but he knew her name at the very least. The summer had been particurarly nice to her he noted. She was definately more beautiful then he remembered, but that wasn't a bad thing in the least.
Derek leaned against the trunk of the tree before speaking. "Not that I'm complaining, but what's a pretty girl doing sitting up in my tree?" he asked playfully. He was never serious and serious was not a color that painted his words. Ever. Really what Derek was wondering more was how she had gotten up there in that skirt without flashing anybody but he really wasn't in the mood to be slapped so he decided to keep that question to himself for the time being.

As soon as Sara had reached the top she took a glimps of the sun. It was so beautiful. The work of mother nature fasinated her. It was untouched by man's hands and created by an unknown force. Not only was the golden and crimson sun eluminating the clear blue sky and the small white birds that took over the skies. Now that was a sight Sara could stare at for hours.
She could of done just that but an familiar voice had overtaken her attention. It was faint but noticable. She let out a sign and looked down to see a dark haired male standing underneath the tree looking up at her. She had seen him around the common room and grounds and only knew him by his reputation. Lady's man. So typical.
A smile came to her face. Company was always good. "I may be pretty, but climbing tree's arn't hard to climb." She scooted down and turned herself and grabed hold of the branch. She lowered herslef down and hung from the branch. She let go and landed on the hard grass. Dusting off her clothes and turned around and took a step closer to the fellow. She moved a strand of blonde hair away from her heart-shaped face and looked up at the tall figure. "What? Did I beat you too it. I'm sorry." she replied as she squinted her eyes for the bright sun was shining on the two of them. A small giggle escaped her pink lips. It was so hard to be serious these days. [/blockquote]

Derek wondered what he had done to this particular girl that would have made her so annoyed at him. He honestly couldn't remember anything that happened within the time that he knew her name. He was sure that he hadn't dated her and he could never remember actually talking about her or to her for that matter. He wasn't going to be as egotistical enough to think that she had a crush on him at one point. He saw what could happen to guys when they thought stuff like that and it was never a good time to be kicked by a girl especially one that had enough strength to pull herself up into a tree.
"Well if you're into stating the obvious then yest you did beat me to my tree," Derek said. "You see this tree and I go back a long time and I like to think of her as a good old friend." He wondered how long he was going to be able to keep a straight face around Sara. He was sure that he was going to burst into laughter at any second. Really who could have taken this conversation that they were having serious at all? It was absurd. Then he heard her laugh and he had to admit that it was a cute laugh and the way she smiled when she laughed made her look all the more beautiful but a lot of girls were pretty when they smiled and he didn't think anything of the way her features became all the more attractive.
"But there are ways to make me forget about my tree for small amounts of time such as meeting someone new as yourself. My name's Derek." He was sure that hey knew one anothers names but it was at least a good way to make sure so none of them looked stupid and then they had to sit within an awkward silence that would doom any chances they had with any sort of relationship with one another and Derek definately wanted something with her. Just what though he wasn't quite sure.

A little giggle slipped from her pink lips as he introduced himself. She had to admit, he was quite charming. Both of their blue eyes glared at one another, looking up and down at eachother. She liked his little smirk on his sunkissed face. It gave him a cute quirk. He seemed to give off a gentle and sweet affect, as if he wasn't even in rough and brave Gryffindor. But maybe there was something more to him then she knew. But of course she only knew from what she heard.
She placed her hands on her hips and leaned against the tree with her back. She looked him up and down for a split second and returned her gaze back up at his face with a gentle smile. "Sara. Well I'm sorry if I had taken over your tree...but personally.." she said tilting her head and squinting her eyes. "I didn't see your name on it." Crossing her arms across her chest she couldn't wait to see how long this sarcasim could go on.

Derek had to admit to himself that he had a little ego boost when he caught her looking him up and down. At least she hadn't seemed dumbfounded when she did it. Like most guys he saw looking at a girl. Really did they have no shame? No pride? They should at least know that they look completely stupid when they stand there drueling at a girl. It showed that most men had only one thing on their minds, and while Derek was no exception to this, he at least had the decentcy to make it appear that his mind could think about something other then sex.
"Well then you obviously haven't looked very hard," Derek said continuing their game of sarchasm, though he was being fairly true about this. His name was on the tree but he hadn't been the one to carve it and he definately knew that the Derek in question was not him as it had been there when he was a first year so he could only assume that it was someone that might have been there long before. The tree was rather old. "Did you look around on the other side of the tree?" he asked her, but he was more like daring her actually.
Derek waited to see what she would do. He wanted her to walk over to the other side of the tree. He wanted to see her face painted with a look of shock on it. He knew that it would be priceless and he would love the satisifaction of knowing that he was the one that did that to her.
[it's fine. it's late here too for me]

"Well then you obviously haven't looked very hard," "Did you look around on the other side of the tree?" She heard him say. With a slight shock, she was actually outsmarted. This was a first for Sara. But did this stop her, no it sure didn't. This little daredevil didn't want to look like a complete dummy. They say that blondes have more fun, well thats true. But the stupidity, she hated that with a passion.
Taking a deep breath he shook her head from left to right. "Poor poor Derek. You see, this may be the magical world but yet we still have a form of government." she was more connected with the muggle world than any other member of her family. She started climb back up into the tree, minding she was still wearing a skirt. "And in todays government, my friend." she stated as she made her way up to the nearest branch. Once atop she fixed her grey skirt and looked down. "Whether it has your name on it....I'm still taking it." a jokers face appeared across her face. A wide smile brought out her sarcasim. "Really now?" Derek asked since he was now being challeneged for his tree and he would be damned if he would let this girl take it from him. He had climbed more then his few share of trees in his day. Though he decided that when Sara climbed up the tree, he was not going to look up her skirt. Afterall it would not fitin well with his plan. Yes because right now he actually had a plan and he was hoping with all of his heart that his plan was going to work.
There was more then one low branch to the tree and so Derek decided to climb up the other one. After all Sara was not the only one who could climb up a tree. The branch was lower then hers but that was what he really wanted. He would look too domineering if the branch had been up higher then hers as he was already a substantial amount taller then she was. Then again he was taller then most people. It was just something that he learned to shrug off and not really care about.
Derek leaned over holding onto the trunk of the tree. He was now looking up at the lovely blond that was trying to take away his tree. "And what if I say I don't want you take away my tree?" he asked her. "What if I try and stop you what are you going to do then?" He wanted to see just what kind of fight she was going to put up. It would help him later to try and gague just how tough she was going to be.

"And what if I say I don't want you take away my tree?" he asked her. "What if I try and stop you what are you going to do then?" It had seemed he was a bit smarter at this sarcasim than she thought. Normally the people here would through a fit, but not him and certaintly not her. Even though Sara was a joker, she had a tendency to not know when to stop. Which was one of her many downfalls, especially hott guys. But her strong point was that she could hold things in for a long time.
Reaching behind her she grabed her wand from the back of her skirt. Placing a firm grip on it she smirked as she pointed it towards him. "You can try there sir. But unfortunetly I would have to kill you." she said with a straight and stern face. But all too soon she could hold it any longer. A burst of laughter shot out and took control of her. "Ok..ok, you win. I give up." she said, finally catching her breath. Lowering her wands, she glanced back at him with a slight smirk. [/blockquote]

She had given in easily he thought. She had fought a little more then the others but she had still lost. He didn't even get to throw in his witty comment to counteract her death threat. It was a real shame as well. It was a good one and he would just have to save it for another time because he intended to make sure that there was going to be another time. How he had not known this highly entertaing and all around fetching girl for the past seven years he did not know but he was most definately kicking himself for it.
"But what do I win?" he asked. That was what was in important to the young wizard now. He wanted to know what she deemed his prize. It would be all around fun for him to try and get her to give him a prize that he wanted but he wasn't sure if he could push her that way yet. He would have to be sly and sneaky with it. "Surely there's something in it for me other then the tree that already belonged to me." He wasn't sure how she was going to take his teasing and blantant flirting with her and he was expecting to get smacked or hexed and he would go flying out of the tree only to break something before Quidditch started and the head of Gryffindor house would kill him and probably Sara for that matter to for she would have caused his fall.
